Software Engineering Intern – SF Bay Area
Company Overview
Hippo Harvest is a Series B startup. We are a robotics-enabled greenhouse farm focused on growing high quality lettuce and leafy greens while using fewer resources. In a world increasingly impacted by climate change, pollution, and population growth, conventional production of fresh vegetables is unsustainable. Compared to field production, our hydroponic greenhouse methods use 95% less water, cause less food waste, eliminate fertilizer runoff, and allow crops to be grown locally, all without needing to use harmful pesticides. However, greenhouse producers like us make up only a small part of today’s market due to high capital/labor costs and operational complexity. To close this gap, Hippo Harvest designs hydroponic grow systems from the ground up for simplicity, robotic automation, and machine learning to build sustainable, economical, and scalable production systems of the future.
This role reports to the Head of Operations. Your focus as a software engineering intern will be on developing and improving internal tools to enable more efficient and effective farm operations. We are a small team, and after gaining familiarity with the operation and the technology stack you will largely be developing independently, serving as designer, product manager, and engineer for the tools you work on. This is a unique opportunity to have complete ownership over the products you build, and immediately see their impact on an exciting application.
This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days per week required in our office/farm in Pescadero, CA and the remaining days can be worked remotely. We are looking for 12 weeks of availability, but the start and end dates are flexible. These 12 weeks do not need to be continuous, if you have travel or other obligations during the summer. The total salary for the 12 weeks will be $15,000 ($1250 per week).
